Gratitude

In loving memory of my mother, Helen, who shared the true part of this story, that I never knew, until I was her caregiver, for seven years; My father, Earl, who was the donor for Bill’s blood transfusion, in 1946 and served in the U.S. Navy, during WWII; My brother, Bill, who served as an electronics technician in the U.S. Navy, during the Vietnam War and spread kindness for fifty-three years.

I am truly grateful to Tony Robbins and Dean Graziosi for their outstanding life and business strategy programs, which provided the tools for me to unlock the power of a positive and growth mindset. I utilized their expert knowledge and sprinkled it throughout my book, to empower young readers. I developed skills that gave me the courage to “veer out of my comfort zone” with this creative project. I learned to focus on excellence and progress, to overcome perfection and procrastination, which propelled me over the finish line. Interestingly, my brother Bill introduced me to Tony Robbins, by mailing me a box filled with Tony’s cassette tapes, thirty-five years ago. I would listen to them in between pharmaceutical sales calls, to keep the momentum going and help me achieve my goals.

Sincere appreciation goes to my fabulous illustrator, Sabrina Fajardo, who is a busy single mom, juggling her visual art and graphic design business, while caring for an autistic son. Amazingly, I found out about her extraordinary talent by chatting with a total stranger, in the chair next to me, during a hair appointment. That’s when I knew that my book was meant to be and I needed to take the action steps to make it happen. The lady in the hair salon had previously worked with Tony Robbins.

Banana Boy Billy

I will always be thankful for their service to our country!

L: William Morris Brownlee (Banana Boy Billy)  9/2/1945 - 8/19/1999

R: Earl Richard Brownlee (Billy’s dad and donor for his blood transfusion, in 1946) 5/22/1919 - 5/13/2000

A special thank you to my “executive team” of young test readers, Reilynn, 5, Beckett, 10 and Camdyn, 12 and their parents, Suzanne (my niece, who is a second-grade teacher) and Steve Henderly. I’m sure they won’t miss hearing, “Which line do you like better?”

I am also truly thankful for the insightful suggestions from my brother Bob (my “executive team’s” granddad) and two dear friends, Susan Vandewater (a retired third-grade teacher) and Margaret Chastain, who has always cheered me on by amusingly saying that I’m going to be a millionaire. Susan and I graduated with a classmate who became a self-made billionaire, so anything is possible! It would be exciting to transform from an unknown, self-published writer to a best-selling author, who can be a “hero for those in need.”

Finally, to all of the bullies that I’ve met along the way, during my journey in life, "I forgive you." Thank you for helping me realize that every obstacle is an opportunity!
